The expressions and contortions of the horses on a carousel bring feelings of agony and despair in this series of Carousel of Despair. Processed with a strong black and white film noir contrast.
Even as a child I would not ride a carousel, as the horses always appeared to be locked in a state of discomfort. I have ridden on a carousel as an adult with my own children only to feel disturbed and uncomfortable with all these suffering animals surrounding me.
James currently lives and works in the New York City area, a far cry from a childhood in the splendors of rural Vermont. An unabashed introvert, James enjoys observing all that surrounds him without feeling the need to be an integral part of the proceedings. His goal as an artist is to express the remarkable within the familiar and ordinary, through critical examination and contemplation of the subject, without alteration of the scene... ...And sometimes he just gets lucky by being in the right place at the right time. PLEASE NOTE: - The 'Fine Art America' watermark that is present on each image will NOT appear on the finished print. %
