The sun rises over The Sand Bar State Park in Milton, Vermont on a calm and peaceful morning in New England.
Lake Champlain (French: Lac Champlain) is a natural freshwater lake in North America, located mainly within the borders of the United States (states of Vermont and New York) but is also partially situated across the CanadaUnited States border in the Canadian province of Quebec.
The lake was named after the French explorer Samuel de Champlain, who encountered it in 1609. While the ports of Burlington, Vermont; Port Henry, New York; and Plattsburgh, New York today are primarily used by small craft, ferries and lake cruise ships, they were of substantial commercial and military importance in the 18th and 19th centuries.
A variety of Native American names for the lake were recorded by historians. Many historical works give Caniaderi Guarunte as the Iroquois name for the lake (meaning: mouth or door of the country); the lake was an important northern gateway...
James currently lives and works in the New York City area, a far cry from a childhood in the splendors of rural Vermont. An unabashed introvert, James enjoys observing all that surrounds him without feeling the need to be an integral part of the proceedings. His goal as an artist is to express the remarkable within the familiar and ordinary, through critical examination and contemplation of the subject, without alteration of the scene... ...And sometimes he just gets lucky by being in the right place at the right time. James, I envy you being in Vermont - they take such great care of the land. Hard to imagine a sand bar state park in most other places, and you've captured a fabulous near-surreal mix of the earth sky and water there. Love the almost-boil of white clouds reflecting near the shoreline. I think the barren rows and reflections of seagrass stalks tie the whole thing together like fine stitching. Super take! (smiles)
James Aiken replied:
Thank you so very much for your comment Felipe.
