Product Details

Our luxuriously soft beach towels are made from brushed microfiber with a 100% cotton back for extra absorption.   The top of the towel has the image printed on it, and the back is white cotton.   Our beach towels are available in two different sizes: beach towel (32" x 64") and beach sheet (37" x 74").

Don't let the fancy name confuse you... a beach sheet is just a large beach towel.

Artist's Description

The Lexington Hotel, originally known as the Monroe House, is situated on the banks of the Schoharie Creek in the town of Lexington in the Catskills area of upstate New York. The three-story resort hotel with accommodations for 50 people was erected in 1878-9 in the Italiante architectural style.

The hotel was constructed by Major James Monroe Van Valkenburgh (1842-1912), prominent citizen and longtime village resident. He was an honored veteran of the Civil War having served in the 80th New York Volunteers and later served as town supervisor and superintendent of highways for several years.

Today, unfortunately, the property is abandoned and suffering from years of neglect. The property is posted with no access permitted, but even with just exterior views only, you can still gain a small appreciation for the grand boarding houses that once dotted the Catskills landscape.

About James Aiken

James Aiken

James currently lives and works in the New York City area, a far cry from a childhood in the splendors of rural Vermont. An unabashed introvert, James enjoys observing all that surrounds him without feeling the need to be an integral part of the proceedings. His goal as an artist is to express the remarkable within the familiar and ordinary, through critical examination and contemplation of the subject, without alteration of the scene... ...And sometimes he just gets lucky by being in the right place at the right time. PLEASE NOTE: - The 'Fine Art America' watermark that is present on each image will NOT appear on the finished print. %
